For this new owner, the dream of owning a Shelby Super Snake began in Pennsylvania. Towing an enclosed trailer, he drove west to Las Vegas, Nevada to pick up his dream car.
Many of our customers, especially those from out of state, are weekend warriors at the track. He wanted JBA to maximize his power for both on the track and off the track.
The 5.4L engine was equipped with a Kenne Bell supercharger, but the customer demanded even more. He headed south to JBA Performance Center in search of more power and a better sounding exhaust system. Before any work was done, the Super Snake was base-lined on our Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno, and produced 580 rwhp and 536 torque running 100-octane race gas. When all the work was done, a whopping 833 rwhp, 720 torque at 24.5-psi was achieved. Read on to see how it was done! |

The first step was replacing the factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds, 2.5-inch x-pipe, and 2.5-inch Borla axle-back system with JBA's off-road long-tube headers, 3-inch off-road mid-pipes with cats, and axle-back system. (See Products) The exhaust tubing is mandrel bent out of stainless steel, and the headers are long-tube stainless-steel with a silver-ceramic thermal coating. JBA technician, Jeff Audia was given the task of removing the factory system and installing the new JBA system. Then, after a test drive to ensure no leaks or rattles, the Super Snake was rolled back on the dyno for custom tuning. |

The next step was to see what the Super Snake gained with the JBA long-tubes, 3” exhaust and JBA tuning.
He wanted us to put together a race tune as well as a street legal tune. We rolled it onto the dyno, strapped it down, and our tuner, Bruce Tucker, modified the programming to safely achieve the power the customer craved. The car produced 660 rwhp and 564 torque. That's a gain of 80 rwhp and 28 lb.-ft. torque. The final step was for JBA technician Jarrod Ellison to install a 24-psi blower pulley, pour in a can of 109-octane race gas, and for Tucker to crank on the tune. With the beast strapped down and two technicians planted in the trunk (“trunk monkeys”), the dyno recorded 833 rwhp and 720 torque. After the dust settled, the keys were handed back to the customer for a test drive before loading the Shelby onto his trailer. He returned with a “g-force inspired” grin after piloting his JBA-modified Shelby Super Snake. (See Dyno Tuning)
